Do's

  • When it is time for you to start your session , walk confidently to the dais and appear to be in control.
  • Make a good start with a proper introduction establish credibility
  • Stand erect to your full height
  • Put participants at ease . Use humour if you have the knack.
  • Prepare a detailed lesson plan, a glance at which from time to time should provide confidence that you are progressing as you should.
  • Talk clearly and sufficiently loudly .
  • To keep track of the timing a digital watch with big letters may be kept on the table where you can see the time without the participants seeing you do it.
  • If any notes other than the visuals and the lesson plan are required to aid your memory, keep them brief and write them on small cards or on POST-IT pads.
  • use a small table top lectern.
  • Be alert to catch non-verbal feedback from the participants
  • Ask questions to check if you are being understood
  • Be prepared to change your level to adjust to the interest and comprehension level of the the trainees.
  • After every major point stop for a brief summary

Dont's

  • Do not get drawn into irrelevant discussions
  • Do not run down a participant if he asks a silly question
  • Do not exhibit signs of nervousness like prowling , shaking, leaning on podium etc.
  • Avoid 'noises' in communication channel
  • Do not use humour if you do not have knack to do it.
  • Never memorise the text.
  • Do not mumble
